Soil Testing

Belmont SWCD will come to your farm to test your soil or you can bring it to us! Once the results are back from the lab we can tell you how much lime and fertilizer your field needs. Tests are $15 per sample.

Exclusion Fencing

Funded through Muskingum Watershed Conservancy District, participants must be in the Muskingum or Captina watershed. Participants must have livestock with access to the stream. This grant will pay up to $10,000 to construct fence that excludes livestock from the stream as well as providing an alternative water source if needed.

Captina Creek Stream Team

The stream team takes a citizen science approach at reporting water quality throughout the Captina Creek Watershed. This group of volunteers takes water quality readings on tributaries and the mainstem of Captina quarterly, and submits data for regulatory agencies to review.

The stream team is open to all Belmont County residents and landowners who have an interest in conservation and biology! Please call the office if interested.

Seed Library

Our Seed Library is officially open! The Belmont SWCD Seed Library is a public seed sharing program that provides garden seeds at absolutely no charge to participants.

How does it work?? It works just like any library, when you check out a book you have to return it after you are done with it. So you can come in our office, pick out the seeds that you want to plant this year, sign them out, grow your seeds and be happy, save some seeds from your harvest, return them to our Seed Library so they can be available to someone else next year!

There are vegetable, herb, perennial flower, and annual flower seeds available. We have multiple packets of most things but we ask that you only take what you need. If 1 whole packet of tomato seeds is more than you are going to plant this year then only take a few seeds instead.

We realize that some things may be really hard to save seeds from and that’s ok, just save what you can. Also, be sure not to return seeds that have a potential of being cross pollinated with other plants. When returning seeds to us be sure to label them with as much detail as you can.
